Welcome to the 2008-2009

Kansas Krusader Womens Wrestling Team Website

This website is dedicated to promoting the advancement of women's wrestling. The Kansas Krusaders are the Official Kansas Womens Team of USA Wrestling.

Hello Kansas Krusaders…Welcome Back to Wrestling Season

This is Coach Ed and it’s time for a new season of girls wrestling.  We have several new girls that have already contacted me and are anxious to get into the mix of things.  We also have our old reliable National and State Champs. We had 4 of our KS girls graduate.   Three of them competed at Fargo and two were All Americans and one was a National Champ.  The fourth was unable to attend because she enlisted in the Marines.  She had to leave before Fargo but has completed her basic training and will be stationed this month at the Pentagon.  All of the girls had opportunities that wrestling helped them with.  Never underestimate the number of doors that wrestling can open for you.  The marine is Regina Ward from Lakin.  We also have Beth Johnson that became a National Champ and is continuing her education and training at the USOEC in Michigan.  We have several girls still in school that have the potential to excel at this level if they practice hard and get the mindset of success.

We are starting our regular practices early this year.  We already have practice scheduled for Sunday, January 4, 2009 in Burlingame, KS from noon to 3pm and again on Sunday, January 18, 2009.  We will be practicing freestyle at these practices as this is the style of wrestling that women continue to wrestle in college and on the senior level.

I would like you girls to start doing close grip pull -ups and narrow elbow push -ups with crunches in between.    I would like you to do a total of 200 per day.  You can do them between homework, chores or watching TV.  These will help you get ready for the coming season.

Here are some of last year’s records:

USAW Nationals in OKC- HS 5th, MS -1st, Elem -1st

USGWA Nationals in Detroit- MS -2nd

USAW Body Bar in Colorado Springs-6 All Americans

Fargo Nationals- National Champions-2; All Americans-7; 3rd Overall in National; Duals 4th in the Nation

We had a terrific tournament in Fargo, losing to California by only one point in the Individual Championships.  This was a giant step for KS women’s wrestling.  We have the potential to do quite well again this year.  We all need to get focused and work hard and continue to focus on the prize.

Remember to get as many muscle conditioning workouts in as possible, attend every Sunday practice that you can and keep your eyes on the website for further updates.

See you on January 4th!

Coach Ed
